As effective humane educators, part of our role is to stay informed on global ethical issues, so that we can share accurate information and inspire positive action.

But with so many global challenges, keeping up isn’t easy – especially when a lot of these issues are left out of mainstream media.

Here are 9 online sources for finding out more about environmental protection issues.

1. EJ Today
The Society for Environmental Journalists features daily “new and outstanding stories on environmental topics.”

2. Environmental News Network
ENN aggregates and comments on major environmental news stories from around the world. Topics include sustainability, health, agriculture, wildlife, climate, energy, and more.

3. Grist
Grist is an online environmental website with news, commentary, and advice for greener living.

4. IHE’s Resources
On our own Humane Connection blog, Pinterest page, and online Resource Center you’ll find numerous useful resources for finding out more about environmental protection issues, from books and films, to websites and articles.

5.  Mongabay
Mongabay offers news and features, seeking “to raise interest in and appreciation of wild lands and wildlife, while examining the impact of emerging trends in climate, technology, economics, and finance on conservation and development.”

6. One Green Planet
The “Earth Monster” channel of this “online guide to making conscious choices that help people, animals, and the planet” offers blog posts on a variety of environmental protection issues.

7. Sierra Magazine
Sierra Club’s magazine includes features, photos, tips and more on environmental protection issues, living a greener life, taking positive action, and falling in love with the natural world. The website includes most of the articles from the magazine, as well as some extras.

8. Treehugger
Treehugger offers daily news and commentary on a variety of environmental issues, from green living, to technological innovation, to changemakers and solutionaries.

9. Yale Environment360
From the Yale School of Forestry & Environmental Studies, this site offers news, reports, and commentary on a variety of environmental protection issues
