"Domestic Abuse" in Tennessee Now Includes Pets

Humane Educators know all about the connection between violence against animals and violence against humans. Tennessee has recently enacted a new law that expands the meaning of "dometstic abuse" to include animals. Since victims of domestic abuse often stay in a relationship to protect their companion animals, or suffer the torture or death of an animal companion by a violent partner, harming a pet (or even threatening to do so) during a domestic dispute has now become a crime.
