M.Ed. Program Description
Length of Study
The M.Ed. degree can be completed in five semesters over 18 months. Students who need more time are offered the option to complete the program in six semesters over two years. M.Ed. program staff are available to help you discover how the distance-learning M.Ed. in Humane Education can fit your life, work schedule, and learning style.
Residency
M.Ed. program students are required to attend a five-day residency with IHE faculty at the Institute in Surry, Maine. This intensive training occurs in the summer only. During residency training, you’ll hone presentation skills, receive and give critical feedback, and make deep connections with faculty and others in the program.
2009 Residency is August 3-7, 2009.
See snapshots from past Residencies & read what students had to say about the experience.
Mentoring
M.Ed. students are offered mentoring on a monthly basis by IHE faculty. These mentoring sessions may take place via email or telephone, or in some cases, in person. Course readings and assignments can have a profound effect on individuals in the program, so IHE encourages students to take full advantage of the mentoring available. Mentoring enhances your educational experience and supports your personal and academic progress throughout your program of study.
Online Student Community
M.Ed. students have access to IHE’s dedicated student discussion forum, the Online Classroom, through this website. In the Online Classroom, you’ll discuss assignments and program issues, post essays, communicate with faculty, and build community with fellow students. It is a vibrant, interactive source of guidance, inspiration, and community with like-minded people -- all essential components of distance-learning.
Accreditation Information
Though you'll work almost entirely with IHE's faculty and complete IHE's program of study, the M.Ed degree is conferred by Cambridge College, which is fully accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges.
