Curriculum Developer

Facing the Future is accepting applications for a part-time Curriculum Developer. Facing the Future is a Seattle-based national educational nonprofit organization whose mission is to engage students in learning by making academics relevant to their lives. We empower students to think critically, develop a global perspective, and participate in positive solutions for a sustainable future.

The Curriculum Developer will work with the Curriculum Development team to develop and edit curriculum materials, resulting in the creation and production of hands-on, engaging, research-based global sustainability curriculum materials.

The Developer will work half time (approximately 20 hours per week) in our Seattle office. The position could become full-time in the future.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Research, write, and edit curriculum materials
  • Communicate with experts as needed to provide guidance on curriculum development
  • Work with FTF staff to support development of digital curriculum products

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience writing and/or reviewing K-12 curriculum and educational materials
  • Strong interest in and commitment to education and sustainable development
  • Excellent copy editing skills
  • Excellent writing skills
  • Demonstrated scientific literacy
  • Strong research skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products
  • Ability to work independently, as well as part of a team
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines

Educational Facilitator

Peconic Community School (a project of the Northfork Education Initiative) is accepting resumes for a full time Educational Facilitator (teacher) for the 2012-2013 school year. The Educational Facilitator will guide a small multi-age kindergarten through third grade classroom, fostering hands-on experiential learning, cultivating principles of a holistic, placed-based education, and integrating the arts through an emergent curriculum.

Peconic Community School is a progressive independent community school opening with its first K-3 multi-age class in Fall 2012. The school’s mission is to nurture children’s natural curiosity, imagination and inclination for creativity and play, and integrate the land, environment and community through the unique landscape of the North Fork, to inspire an awareness of self and the surrounding world, and to foster excellence in math, science, literacy, arts and humanities.

The Educational Facilitator will inspire intrinsic learning within students, document instruction, and foster relations between school and family. We are seeking someone who is interested in becoming part of a close-knit community and whose positive influence will help shape school culture. The ideal candidate will be passionate, professional, compassionate, collaborative and creative.

Curriculum Director

One World Youth Project (OWYP) is seeking a full-time Curriculum Director for their organization in Washington, D.C.

The Curriculum Director is responsible for OWYP's middle school learning experiences. The position requires an experienced education professional who is dedicated to OWYP’s vision of a just world built through the actions of empowered, discerning and empathetic generations of global citizens.

Responsibilities

  • Design high-quality lesson plans that foster learning experiences to engage youth in the complex discussion of global understanding
  • Collaborate on the creation of training modules for university student facilitators of the OWYP curriculum and how to effectively facilitate it
  • Push for continuous improvement and innovation in OWYP’s curricula based on assessment feedback
  • Collect best practices from curriculum creation and implementation and innovations in education for disseminating to staff
  • Develop communication tools to be used to connect OWYP classrooms
  • Collaborate to develop systems to facilitate curriculum implementation
  • Contribute ideas and energy to the work of the whole team and to the workplace culture

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or international equivalent
  • Classroom teaching experience
  • Substantial international travel and/or work experience with a proven passion for global citizenship
  • Deep understanding of the complex, interdisciplinary issues related to promoting global consciousness and mutual understanding among youth worldwide
  • Interest in non-traditional teaching and learning frameworks
  • Comfort with curriculum development and analysis
  • Comfort with the ability to view education through an interdisciplinary, anthropological lens
  • Track record of turning ideas into action
  • Ability to research, synthesize and analyze large amounts of information
  • Attention to detail while maintaining ability to see big picture
  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic and frequently changing work environment
  • Ability to operate with a high level of personal responsibility, optimism and entrepreneurialism
  • Sense of humor

Humane Education Intern

The National Museum of Animals and Society is seeking a Humane Education Intern. The intern's primary responsibilities include "researching and drafting educational text geared towards children for the Museum website, including biographies; generating downloadable and/or printable resources for kids, caretakers and teachers; assisting with humane education programming; providing general programming support; other projects and duties as assigned."

Requirements:

  • Strong interest in history and human-animal studies
  • Ability to think and write engagingly for a young audience
  • Past humane education experience or work experience with children is a plus
  • Excellent attention to detail, organization, writing, and verbal skills
  • Well versed in Microsoft Office software applications
  • Ability to work independently
  • Self-motivated essential
  • An artistic background (photography, graphic design, illustration) is beneficial, but not required

Schedule is flexible and the intern will work remotely. This is an unpaid position.
