Greetings Institute for Humane Education (IHE) alumni!
As many of you know, we had a big “birthday bash” for IHE the summer of 2011 when the organization turned 15. Before the party, a number of alumni and staff met outside under a big beautiful white tent and mapped out the launch of our first-ever alumni association. The ideas were flowing, and many alumni who could not be with us had emailed suggestions and thoughts.
As is always the case at IHE, the spirit of collaboration created excitement and momentum. We have more than 100 alumni, and the ranks are swelling as the new program at Valparaiso has gotten off to a lively start with nearly 50 new students over the past year and a half. It is the perfect time to move forward, reconnect, and marshal our energies as a force for necessary change in the world!
We are launching our IHE Alumni Association in stages. We are beginning with a listserv, something many of you recommended. We may get fancier in the future, but for now we will keep it simple.
Also, if you haven’t filled out your alumni survey yet, please take a few minutes to do so: we read them with great relish!
We encourage you to subscribe to IHE’s blog as well. This is now required reading in our graduate programs because it is the best way to stay current on a daily basis with what’s going on in the field.
We will also post alumni news and profiles and job, internship, and volunteer opportunities on this page, as well as ideas on how you can take action in the world, connect with other alumni and humane educators, and support IHE in our collective work.
We could not be more enthused about this endeavor and look forward to reconnecting with each and every one of you!
Mary Pat Champeau, Director of Education
