Thinking about all our global challenges can leave us feeling overwhelmed and powerless.

In this excerpt from the documentary “Dirt” activist and changemaker Wangari Maathai tells the story of the hummingbird, who, when the other animals are standing around watching the forest burn, does the best she can to make a difference.

As Wanagari says, “I will be a hummingbird; I will do the best I can.”

We shouldn’t wait to act until we feel like everything is just perfect. The world can’t wait until we have all the knowledge, all the skills, all the confidence, and all the resources we think we need to take meaningful action.

We can make a positive difference by embracing our role as a hummingbird and doing the best we can right now.
