There may be controversy about medical experimentation using animals, but most people agree that testing on animals for cosmetics and household products is cruel and outdated. The EU, and countries such as India, China, and now South Korea have all recently passed laws banning some or all parts of animal testing related to cosmetics.

For those who don’t want to support animal testing on cosmetics or household products, we can look for the Leaping Bunny symbol, which certifies that those products are “cruelty free” under the “internationally-recognised Humane Cosmetics or Humane Household Products Standards.”

For more details, the Go Cruelty Free website offers lists of companies that do and don’t test on animals, a searchable database of cruelty-free products (selectable by country), and  opportunities to contact companies to share your views.

There’s also a free app for iPhones that helps citizens identify which products have the Leaping Bunny mark.
