Sharif Abdullah is an author, trainer and a leading catalyst for inclusive social, cultural and spiritual transformation. Abdullah is an expert in the emerging field of how human populations interact and change. Abdullah teaches groups and individuals how to understand and practice inclusivity – the connection with all other beings. His books include The Power of One: Authentic Leadership in Turbulent Times and Creating a World That Works for All. He is the founder and president of Commonway Institute and the originator of the Commons Café and the Common Society Movement.
Mia MacDonald is the executive director of Brighter Green, an "action tank" that aims to raise awareness and encourage dialogue on and attention to issues that span the environment, animals, and sustainable development both globally and locally. Brighter Green's work has a particular focus on equity and rights. McDonald is a policy analyst, writer and advocate whose work encompasses international development issues, conservation, gender, animal protection and the links between food policy and climate change.
Lauren Ornelas is the former executive director of Viva!USA, a national nonprofit vegan advocacy organization. Ornelas has been active in the animal rights movement for over 20 years. After spending four years as National Campaign Coordinator for In Defense of Animals, Ornelas was asked by Viva!UK to start and run Viva!USA in 1999. In cooperation with activists across the country, she worked and achieved corporate changes within Whole Foods Market, Trader Joe's, and Pier 1 Imports, among others. She currently serves as Campaign Director with the Silicon Valley Toxics Coalition and is a board member and founder for the Food Empowerment Project.
Scott Plous is a professor of psychology at Wesleyan University, where he teaches introductory and advanced seminars on the psychology of prejudice and discrimination. He also manages IraqTheVote.org, a human rights initiative designed to help end the Iraq War, and UnderstandingPrejudice.org, an educational clearinghouse with over 2,000 prejudice-related web links and dozens of lesson plans, student activities, and interactive exercises. In 2006, Plous was named Connecticut "Professor of the Year" by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching, and in 2008 he received the American Psychological Foundation's Distinguished Teaching in Psychology Award.
Nina Simons is a social entrepreneur and co-founder and co-president of Bioneers. In addition to advancing practical social and environmental strategies, Simons has an enduring interest in the leadership of women and girls and has developed several projects to nurture such leadership. Simons speaks and teaches nationally about women’s leadership, restoring gender balance to our culture, reweaving the web of relations – with our selves, each other and the natural world, and organizations as living systems. Simons has received several awards for her work and serves on the board of the David Brower Center.
Philip G. Zimbardo, Professor Emeritus of Psychology at Stanford University, is an internationally-recognized scholar, educator & researcher. He's well-known for his Stanford Prison Experiment research and has written more than 300 publications and 50 books, including his recent work, The Lucifer Effect: Understanding How Good People Turn Evil. Zimbardo helped popularize psychology with the public, with his PBS television series Discovering Psychology. Recently, he was awarded the Vaclav Havel Foundation Prize for his lifetime of research on the human condition.
